Week 4 Video Reviews
This week we are moving to a time when MTV was forced to change from a channel that featured videos made by whites only, to videos that were more thnically diverse. This change occurred after the release of Michael Jackson's "Thriller", an album that reached Platinum status twenty-seven times. MTV's viewers also changed during this time, moving from a large female audience to an audience of young males. Attracting young males was a goal that MTV executives wanted to achieve before this, but it wasn't until the "heavy metal" bands started making videos that more young men tuned in to MTV.
The videos I selected to review this week include "Photograph" by Def Leppard, "Careless Whisper" by Wham, "What About Love" by Heart, "Little Red Corvette" by Prince, and "Big Mouth" by Whodini.
