Narrative of Video:
Dylan is standing in an alley holding up placards with words on them. As the song plays, he shows a placard that matches the end of each line. To the side, poet Allen Ginsberg is seen. He is obviously having a conversation with someone, but the person he is talking to is out of camera range. At the end of the video both Ginsberg and the person is talking to walk away in different directions, but the identity of the other person is still not seen.
How the Music and Video Relate:
The music and video relate very well. This is obviously a message song and Dylan is getting the message across very simply by holding up specific words that he wants to emphasize from the lyrics of the song.
Review:
I like the simplicity of this video. It is the lyrics of Subterranean Homesick Blues that make this song great. What Dylan does by standing and holding up the placards, is to take the emphasis off of him, and put it on the words of the song. He chooses particular lyrics to show us so that he can push the point home even more.
