Narrative of Video:
The song, “Tijuana Taxi” is being played in the background and there is a yellow car that has “Tijuana Taxi” written on the side of it. The video is set in what would be construed as a typical “Mexican” village. While the song continues to play, a small group of predominantly female dancers perform, and include some of the dance moves that were popular during the early 1960s in their routine. The costumes the dancers are wearing are what would be interpreted as typical “Mexican” fashion. The camera invariably moves in closely on the females’ rear ends as they dance. In one shot, one of the young women’s skirts conveniently flies up revealing her underwear. At the end of the number, they all jump on the “Tijuana Taxi” and it rolls out of the village.
How the Music and Video Relate:
The video and music relate very well together. The high energy of the song is captured very well by the choreographed dance routine.
Review:
All in all, this isn’t a bad video. I don’t care for the stereotyping of the costumes and the village, or the objectification of the women
which seems to be a continuous factor in almost all music videos. This video is quite similar to the later MTV music
videos. It appears to have been created specifically to showcase Herb Alpert's song.
